Fraud

I do not usually read or watch anything relating to the news because it is almost always depressing.  Today was no different as I was reading the local paper online and it was nothing but news about a serial killer in Long Island and a Serial Strangler in Pennsylvania to the discovery of a little girls remains in the woods, her father and his girlfriend stand accused of the crime.
Then I came upon the following article, “Woman accused of duping Social Services for 4 years” (taken from the Watertown Daily Times) and laughed!  There is so much fraud to the ‘system’ of Social Services it is not even funny.  Cases like this are why it is difficult at times for those people who genuinely need assistance and can not attain it.  Cheaters, in this instance, seem to always win.  Some are never caught.
I wish they would launch a huge investigation in to most cases up here in the North Country because there are a lot of people cheating the system.  From parents feeding their children chocolate bars before an exam to determine if a child has ADHD and will receive some type of benefit for this problem to people to others feigning a disability.  How do they even know to do those things?  Makes me wonder what type of job they could actually have if they are able to manipulate so well.
Some of these types of people are making more money from the system than people like my father who work very hard for every penny they get.  It is a sad and all too familar happening in the area where I live.

It’s COLD!!!

Main Street at 0730 and a high of 9 degrees!

I am sure Northern New York is not as cold as some other places but I will tell you something, last winter was amazingly warm compared to this year!  The plows alone have been out more times in the past three weeks then they were last year.  Roads last year were as if it did not even snow.

Now this is the Northern New York I remember and I know, according to my mommy, that there have been worse.

My little gremlins like to lay on the registers and huddle by the small space heater which I have told them could have a negative effect on them.  They won’t be able to tolerate ANY cold which means no snowmobiling, no snowboarding, and no snow forts.

I guess “real winter” has not even hit yet so I am prepared to not stray far from home.  I hate driving in this stuff.

Home From Africa!

"The New Mohawk"

He loves to cut cut cut!

We have actually been home eleven days now but it’s nice to be back. Internet was not the greatest over in Sierra Leone so attempting to update for a change was futile. We had a wonderful time over there and very much enjoyed the warmth, sun, sand and all that nice stuff.

I am hoping to put some posts and photos later on and I will try to more active again sharing bits and pieces of my life with you. Believe me when I say that I have plenty of material.

For example, my youngest son decided that he needed a haircut AGAIN! Yes, my crafting scissors are his little buddy when it comes to altering his appearance. Now in the dead of winter he will have to have his hair all cut off yet again. Hope he will not be too cold without the assistance of his hair to keep him warm up top!
